The MSPmentor team has been heads down for weeks covering industry news and trends, helping out with prepping the big Talkin’ Cloud 100 report that will soon be released (stay tuned) and getting ready for more travel in the weeks ahead. So it’s no surprise that there are plenty of blogs we haven’t had the chance to write lately. Here’s this week’s countdown.

7. It’s true, our co-founder saint Joe Panettieri has been enjoying an extended summer vacation away from these brands that he built. And yet dad wouldn’t leave us all alone here unless he thought we were grown up enough to handle it. He picked us all to take care of his babies. Meanwhile, we’ve gotten “post cards,” from Joe, but I think he’s probably purchased a retirement home on some remote island somewhere.  The entertainment? 1980s movies streaming 24 hours a day. Danke Schoen, Ferris.

6. Meanwhile, we have added some new faces to the team. You’ll notice channel and IT media veteran Mike Vizard blogging at MSPmentor and moderating some of our webcasts. You’ll also notice that Elliot Markowitz is moderating some webcasts, too. And on the Penton side, veteran journalist Marcia Parker has joined the Penton Technology Group as Executive Director of Content and User Engagement.  Plus, we are lucky to have another IT publishing veteran Debra Donston-Miller helping us out, too. What does all this mean? We’ll be adding to what we offer you. Stay tuned for details in the weeks ahead.

5. CompTIA ChannelCon anyone? Our whole Penton Channel editorial team, leaders and bloggers at MSPmentor, The VAR Guy and Talkin’ Cloud, will be traveling to Phoenix in early August to meet with MSPs, VARs, cloud service providers, vendors, distributors and analysts. We hope to see you there. Drop us a line if you plan to attend. Word is that star blogger CJ Arlotta plans to win the 5K race early Tuesday morning before he attends our sneak peek preview breakfast of our Talkin’ Cloud 100 results – our survey that lists the top 100 cloud service providers and tracks trends in the CSP market.

4. And speaking of the Talkin’ Cloud 100, aka TC100, I’ve been burning the midnight oil to get this research together and ready to go in time for ChannelCon. There are some interesting changes on this year’s list, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

3. More research, anyone? I’ve been getting loads of email about our MSP 250 survey, too. In case you need a reminder, this is our list of the most influential people in the managed services space.  And launching this survey is next on my agenda. So while we are a little later than usual getting it going, keep your eye out for the survey in the weeks ahead, and nominate yourself or your favorite managed service influencer.

2. Blogs we, uh, did write. Check out Dan Kobialka’s wrap of books that MSP501 companies said influenced their businesses here.  Sadly, I’ve read none of these yet and with my current to-do list (see above), I doubt I’ll get to even one of these before September. But I’d love to hear what you think of them. Add your comments to Dan’s wrap and let me know which one I should read first.

1. Other things I haven’t written, YET, include a look at a new class of competitors getting into the managed services market, the trend to turn PSA and RMM software into extensible platforms (can you say MSP platform APP store?), and more. Stay tuned. Lots of great stuff ahead.
