Think you know all there is to know about Tigerpaw Software's professional services automation (PSA) tools? Think again. Technology On Demand founder Ed Mana offered Tigerpaw users "outside the box" tips and tricks to help them fully leverage these tools during a presentation at this week's Tigerpaw Partner Conference in Chicago.

Mana, a Tigerpaw power user for seven years, helps companies get more out of the PSA software by implementing training, custom reports and other services.

He said that Tigerpaw users have reported three major challenges to him over the years:

  1. We need to store more information.
  2. We need to access more information.
  3. We need different functionality.

These problems, however, are often universal, Mana said.

"Most people's problems are not unique to Tigerpaw," he added. "Don't assume that every problem you have is unique to you."

How can Tigerpaw customers use the PSA software to its greatest potential? Mana offered the following tips:

  1. Use all of the resources at your disposal -- Tigerpaw's technical support team, its community and its "Ask the Expert" sessions are valuable resources you can use to learn more about the ins and outs of the software, Mana said.
  2. Take advantage of custom fields -- Mana pointed out creating custom fields for customers' birthdays, significant others and kids' names can help a company connect with its clientele and bolster its customer satisfaction levels.
  3. Monitor your assets -- Tigerpaw allows companies to monitor both their customer assets and their own assets as well. Mana recommended "treating your account like a customer's" and using the PSA software to track your company's assets.
  4. Determine which reports are valuable for your company -- Tigerpaw offers more than 800 reports, and companies need to determine which reports can provide value: "There's a lot of reports in there, and a lot of them are meaningful, and a lot of them are not," Mana said. "Find reports that work for you."
  5. Consider your custom programming options -- Mana noted Tigerpaw users should know exactly what they want from custom programming before they implement it.

Mana also said Tigerpaw users should be unafraid to ask questions to get the support they need.

"If you don’t know how to do something in Tigerpaw, reach out to someone and ask," he said.
