Which types of positions will managed services providers (MSPs) look to fill in 2013? John Davenjay, president of  staffing agency Bowman Williams, expects to see more sales, pre-sales engineer, operation manager, and account manager positions available in 2013, "as MSPs scale in more areas than just hiring billable resources and invest in all areas of their business." Here are the details, along with our weekly job board updates.

Higher salaries and more senior level positions are among Davenjay's predictions for 2013. "During early 2012 many MSPs were only hiring and scaling at the junior and mid-level salary ranges," says Davenjay. "They had the work to bill out a new resource, but were timid to increase headcount with a high salary in fear of experiencing a dip in revenue." Davenjay arrived at this theory by looking at the large amount of promotions during the early to middle part of 2012, as well as the number of junior and mid-level salaries to new hires.

In addition, MSPs can expect to find more technicians with MSP experience in the upcoming year. "Reliable, experienced, client-facing field technicians are expected to be the most demanded resource in 2013," says Davenjay. According to Davenjay, the increasing response rate to MSP job postings over the last two year explains why more MSP industry talent is expected to be in the job market. More MSPs are requiring candidates to have previous experience, resulting in a market flooded with qualified talent.
