Mobile device management (MDM) software vendor AirWatch has earmarked new venture capital funding to pay for an acceleration of global growth, an expansion of the research and development team and increase support for innovation and sales of the company's content collaboration solution. The company announced an expansion to Series A funding through a $25 million investment by Accel Partners, adding to the original $200 million Series A investment by Insight Venture Partners back in February 2013. Here are the details of the investment and an exclusive preview of AirWatch news for next week.

The company's research and development team currently has 400 AirWatch employees. A spokesman said the additional investment will go toward assisting this team's objectives and future goals.

"Accel Partners and Insight Venture Partners recognize the massive potential of this space, and we are excited to partner with the best growth investors from both coasts," said AirWatch President and CEO John Marshall in his prepared remarks.

The company will also continue to scale its partner programs, and use the additional funding to fuel potential strategic acquisitions, a company spokesperson said.

Accel Partners is known for investing in companies that are leveraging technological disruption to define and own new categories.

"We believe that enterprise mobility currently represents the next big secular technological shift we will encounter, and AirWatch has emerged as the dominant company in this increasingly important category," said Ryan Sweeney, partner, Accel in a prepared statement.
