SunGard Availability Services, the disaster recovery service provider, has embraced the Zenoss Service Dynamics platform to support the company's cloud services and managed services infrastructure. Here's a closer look at SunGard's move.

According to SunGard, the Zenoss platform will help the company do two things.
  1. Streamline its international operations by making many legacy management products obsolete
  2. Accelerate SunGard's time to market for new offerings by making SunGard's problem isolation and troubleshooting techniques much quicker
Effective immediately, SunGard's over 9,000 international business customers will be supported by Zenoss' platform. Those assurance capabilities include full-stack resource monitoring, service impact and event management, among others.

SunGard gave two major reasons for choosing the Zenoss platform: the Zenoss Service Dynamics platform automates important parts of SunGard's service assurance lifecycle, and the company responds to any changes within the IT environment in real-time. These two features are part of what SunGard Available Services Chief Operations Officer (COO) Nick Magliato described as SunGard's "new approach."

"The only way to improve service quality while gaining efficiency is to take a new approach," Magliato said in a prepared statement. "With Zenoss, SunGard becomes more effective, more efficient and more responsive to customer needs and new market opportunities."

SunGard's endorsement of the Zenoss platform goes a long way toward validating Zenoss' October 2011 claim that its open source IT management platform was disrupting the big four IT management platform companies: IBM, Hewlett-Packard (HP), CA Technologies and BMC Software. At the time, Zenoss said year-to-date 2011 revenues had grown 300 percent vs. the same period in 2010. We'll be interested in taking a look at Zenoss' revenue figures at the end of the current quarter.
