Barracuda Networks (CUDA), a company that specializes in cloud security and storage solutions, has released a new version of its firewall protection appliance.

The new release, Barracuda Firewall version 6.5, features enterprise-grade, next-generation technology, advanced application control and a customizable user interface, according to the company.

Barracuda Firewall is designed to help organizations without dedicated IT personnel manage firewalls, Barracuda said.

The appliance leverages cloud resources to "extend next-generation security and networking beyond the capabilities of typical security gateways or legacy firewalls."

It also works with the Barracuda Cloud Control centralized management portal and enables administrators to use a Web browser or app to deploy, configure and manage their firewall from any location.

Other Barracuda Firewall version 6.5 features include:

  • A redesigned user interface (UI)
  • Customizable dashboards
  • Enhanced application control
  • New reporting tools

"Our customers work in all types of organizations, from mid-market businesses, to government agencies and educational institutions, to departments or divisions within Fortune 2000 enterprises. They face the same challenges that larger enterprises face, but they face them often with limited time, limited budgets and limited resources," Stephen Pao, general manager of security at Barracuda, said in a prepared statement. "Barracuda reduces that burden for our customers. The Barracuda Firewall is designed for the mid-market, and brings that enterprise next-generation firewall functionality to our customers in an easy-to-use and cost-effective solution."

Barracuda Firewall version 6.5 is immediately available at no additional charge to existing customers on the current hardware platform with an active Energize Updates subscription.

The Barracuda Firewall starts at $999 for the appliance and $179 for a one-year Energize Updates subscription.
