Despite all the known benefits of cloud-based file sharing, many companies are still hesitant to adopt the technology. We'll show you how to help your clients overcome some of the more common fears.
As an MSP, your clients don’t just rely on you for execution. They rely on your expertise and judgment. But when it comes to certain technologies -– in this case, cloud-based file sharing and synching -– some of your customers will still be hesitant, regardless of all the supposed benefits. Tough crowd.
So in order to convince a client that cloud-based file sharing is the right choice, it would be helpful to understand some of those common fears. Here are a few, in no particular order:
1. Cloud immaturity: Despite all the advancements in cloud-based file sharing over the past decade (where does the time go?) many people still view the cloud as an immature technology. As such, there is not enough trust to warrant adoption. This is particularly true of large enterprises that tend to move slowly, but it also applies to smaller companies that fondly remember the good old days (i.e. before cloud-based file sharing existed). As an MSP, remind your customers that the good old days weren’t so good and let them know about all the convenience that comes with cloud-based file sharing and synching.
2. Cloud expertise (or lack thereof): Quite simply, many companies fear the unknown. They know that cloud-based file-sharing exists, but they haven’t taken the time to gain a deep understanding. This lack of knowledge makes them apprehensive about certain aspects of moving to the cloud, most notably the transition. They don’t want the hassle of learning a new technology; they like things just the way they are. It’s important as an MSP to remind your clients that a business-class cloud-based solution is probably far more intuitive than their current file server deployment. More importantly, make sure to stress that you will be handling the complicated parts.
3. Cloud ROI: In other words, how much will a cloud-based file sharing solution cost and will the investment pay off? Remind your clients that the ROI of such a technology cannot be measured solely in terms of dollars and cents (in fact, this can be exceptionally difficult to calculate). Rather, the real ROI comes in the form of time saved. Collaboration will become easier. Employees will become more productive. This is the real ROI of cloud-based file sharing.
4. Cloud insecurity: Inevitably, your clients will ask how they can be sure -– 100% sure -– their files will be safe from hackers and data breaches. They read the headlines. They know that some of most security-conscience companies have been exploited and they fear the same thing could happen to them. As an MSP, acknowledge that nothing is entirely hacker-proof, but remind your clients how vulnerable their current system is vs. a business-class file sharing solutions.
What are some common cloud fears that you’ve encountered as an MSP and how have you helped your clients overcome them? I'm all ears.
