Saturn, a major snowstorm, has shut down Washington, D.C. By Thursday, Saturn is expected to target New Jersey and New York. For managed services providers (MSPs) this is becoming a familiar story. Week after week this winter, MSPs across the United States have double-checked their backup and disaster recovery (BDR) plans with customers that faced oncoming storms. So what's the biggest business challenge awaiting MSPs and businesses facing Saturn's arrival?

The simple answer could involve power outages. Sure, deep snow could block roads -- making it temporarily impossible for MSPs to visit customer offices. But the bigger issue could involve power outages amid Saturn's strong winds. Already, more than 241,000 homes and businesses had no power, most of them in Virginia and West Virginia, but also in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Ohio, according to PolicyMic.

Sales of power generators and UPS (uninterruptible power supplies) have been particularly strong this winter amid all the U.S. storms. Key vendors in the market include Schneider Electric SA, Emerson Electric Co. and Eaton Corp.
