Since the needs of data and backup and disaster recovery (BDR) customers are often all over the place -- not every customer is the same -- the one-size-fits-all BDR product is not an option for managed services providers (MSPs)

To accommodate customer demands, MSPs need to partner with a vendor that can provide a customizable BDR solution, one MSP told MSPmentor in an interview.

"BDR continues to be a hot topic in the IT industry," BlackPoint IT Services CEO James Watson said. "There are no one-size-fits-all solutions, as customers are dealing with their own industry's compliance and regulation standards."

Instead of providing a one-size-fits-all product, BDR vendors should continue their focus on providing customizable solutions, which can assist MSPs with tailoring products to the needs of their customers, he said.

"As we hit maturity in the BDR space, it's becoming more about when are our clients going to adopt a BDR policy, especially in the managed services realm," he said.

He added: "Customers are concerned with regulations over the storage of private information and potential for data breach by storing sensitive information in the cloud."

It's because of these various regulations and needs that customers cannot be grouped into a one-size-fits-all solution.
