With all of the data and backup disaster recovery (BDR) solutions available in today's market, managed services providers (MSPs) are faced with the task of figuring out what differentiates each one. So how can an MSP recognize a BDR solution that is a diamond in the rough? We have the answers.
First, MSPs should look for a cloud-based backup solution, Strata Information Technology, Inc., President Pete Robbins told MSPmentor.
"MSPs supporting businesses that have a low tolerance for data loss or system downtime should consider cloud-based backups as part of their disaster recovery solution," he said. "But not all cloud-based backups provide MSPs with all the features needed."
After narrowing solutions down to cloud-based backup solutions only, it's time to compare and contrast. Which features should MSPs look for in a cloud-based backup solution? Robbins pointed to the following features:
Image-based backups -- Whether a client needs a file, folder or a whole system recovered, image-based backups will do it a lot faster, Robbins said. For example, the Datto Alto generates a hybrid cloud, where the virtualized system runs in the cloud and the client accesses it via a virtual private network (VPN), he added.
Instant local and offsite virtualization -- If a customer's server goes down, "an MSP is the hero if they can bring the server backup fast," Robbins said.
Automated screenshot verification -- How can a solution with automated screenshot verification assist MSPs? Accordings to Robbins, the MSP and the customer are provided with the benefit of knowing that backups are bootable.
