The rumors were true: Ingram Micro is developing cloud-centric business relationships with Amazon.com, Rackspace Hosting, Salesforce.com and several other heavy hitters. The relationships are linked to Ingram Micro's new Cloud Conduit initiative. Here are details about the moves, and the potential implications for managed services providers (MSPs) and VARs.

First, let's start with the "official" news, which surfaced at the Ingram Micro Cloud Summit in Dallas:
  • Ingram Micro's Cloud Conduit is a services effort that connects Ingram Micro’s North America channel partners with cloud computing vendors including ISVs, cloud hosting companies and system integrators.
  • Ingram has also launched relationships with Amazon Web services, Rackspace Hosting and Salesforce.com. For example, the Ingram Micro Services Division is now offering Rackspace’s managed and cloud hosting solutions as part of its Seismic managed services portfolio and general solution provider base.
I'm not suggesting the deals above are "game changers" for VARs and MSPs. To the best of my knowledge, Ingram's Cloud Conduit is a work in process. I think it's safe to expect deeper details to emerge in the months ahead. In particular, watch for deeper details between Ingram and Salesforce.com.

Roughly 250 VARs and MSPs are attending the Ingram Micro Cloud Summit and Ingram Micro Seismic Partner Summit this week in Dallas. We'll provide additional insights throughout the week.
