Managed service providers (MSPs) should expect the enterprise mobility management (EMM) software market to grow over the next four years, according to market analyst Ovum.

A new Ovum forecast indicated that the EMM software market could expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 29.5 percent between 2014 and 2019 and be worth nearly $10 billion by 2019.

"As enterprise mobility management strategies mature, enterprise IT departments think less in terms of basic device management and security and more about how usage of these mobile devices can transform business processes. This inevitably drives them toward mobile app adoption," Ovum Principal Analyst Richard Absalom said in a prepared statement.

Other Ovum EMM software market predictions included:

  • North America has been the biggest geographic market for EMM software and is expected to maintain the biggest share (39 percent) of the market by 2019.
  • Europe may have a 35 percent share of the EMM software market by 2019.
  • The opportunities for fastest growth in the EMM software market are coming from Asia-Pacific (APAC) and Latin America (LATAM).

AirWatch by VMware (VMW), MobileIron (MOBL), IBM (IBM), Good Technology and Citrix (CTXS) were named Leaders in this year's Gartner Magic Quadrant for EMM. However, several EMM software providers have undergone changes that could change next year's Magic Quadrant.

For example, BlackBerry (BBRY) last week announced an agreement to acquire Good Technology for $425 million.

BlackBerry said the Good Technology acquisition will allow it to offer a unified mobility platform with applications for any mobile device on any operating system.
