Solutions, Inc. knows first hand the value of migrating clients from dated tape backup to a robust business continuity solution. Solutions, Inc. provides both custom software development as well as managed services for County and City Governments in Iowa. With clients like that, the need to secure, successfully backup and perform timely restores is essential. Tape can’t deliver those essentials.
Solutions, Inc. first became aware of Datto at an industry event. They witnessed Datto’s now famous Disaster Demo, where we create a true disaster scenario, destroying both a desktop and a Datto SIRIS device, and restore them both using a Datto SIRIS. Given that Solutions, Inc. is based in Iowa and they experience an average of 47 tornadoes a year, it’s critical to have a backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solution that can perform both instant on and off-site virtualization in a secure cloud to keep clients up and running.

The most common scenarios he experienced were “people would forget to switch out the tapes” at the end of the day. Combined with the fact that end-users “would never test the tapes”, backups were more likely than not, unsuccessful. The fully automated nature of Datto SIRIS and its Screenshot Backup Verification were two key selling points for Zach and his team. With Screenshot Backup Verification, he gets a daily image of the backup emailed to him, confirming the successful backup. This also provides proof of service to clients.
The Solutions, Inc. team also heard of clients taking the tapes home. That certainly would never comply with any compliance regulations, let alone provide confidence to the relevant constituents.
New BDR in Town
Zach had another story that exceeded all others. One client, a sheriff’s office, had an “unnamed” backup solution in place for a year. However, it wasn’t working properly and it never took one successful backup … FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR! Needless to say, when Zach took the sheriff’s office on as a client, he put a Datto SIRIS in place almost immediately. Now he gets a screenshot of a confirmed backup every day.
Datto has performed so well for Solutions, Inc. and their clients, Zach shared that now “if a client wants backup, [they] only get Datto.” To date they’ve converted ten clients from tape to Datto, and it’s only the beginning.
